Woman Leaves Her Kids Locked in a Hot Car so She Could Shop and Get her Nails Done

A woman who police say spent more than an hour in a Wal-Mart nail salon while her two toddlers remained in her car on a hot day last summer faces charges of endangering a child, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed on Wednesday.

The affidavit said witnesses walking in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 710 E. Ben White Blvd. near Interstate 35 on May 5, 2016, found the children crying in the back seat of the car just before 2 p.m.

The witnesses called police and went into the store to get help removing the kids, a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, from the car.

“Both children were very hot, sweaty and dirty,” the affidavit said. “The doors of the vehicle were locked. The windows of the vehicle were rolled down approximately an inch and the witnesses could not reach into the car to unlock the door.”
