There are a lot of celebrity best friends that we love like, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, or Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev, but what about the ladies who actually played best friends on screen and are BFFs in real life?
Some stars run in celebrity friendship circles, but have never acted together, and others have played enemies of their friends, but there are a handful of stars that have not only played besties, but also remain inseparable years later. In fact, we’ve rounded up the cutest female best friends that once played BFFs on screen — in a movie or on TV —that are still close to this day below.
We know there are many celebrity best friend pairings that are admirable like Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale (but they played enemies in High School Musical) and Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolf (they’ve starred in a lot of movies together, but not as friends… at least not yet), but if they didn’t play best friends they didn’t make the cut. See who did make the list however, below!
1. Jennifer Aniston & Courteney Cox (Friends)
Hello, these two basically invited the crossover friendship! After playing Rachel and Monica on Friends for 11 years, respectively, it wasn’t that surprising to find out that Aniston and Cox are best friends in reality. In fact, they’ve been two of the most public BFFs in Hollywood for years. Their friendship is so deep that Aniston is Cox’s daughter, Coco’s godmother, and Cox got engaged at Aniston’s house. They’re just too cute.
2. Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera and Alexis Bledel (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants)
After playing best friends in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, all four actresses quickly became real-life besties. Over the last 10 years the ladies have attended each other’s weddings, kidnapped Tamblyn for a surprise bachelorette party, and have had frequent reunions. Plus, they always support each other’s projects and talk about another Sisterhood movie, which would make us so happy. Now if only they passed back and forth a pair of magical jeans then they’d actually be their on-screen counterparts!
3. Shay Mitchell & Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars)
Pretty Little Liars might’ve just stopped filming but Mitchell and Benson’s friendship had to make this list. They’ve played two of the Liars on PLL for the past seven years and their friendship has been strong since the show first started. These two ladies are pretty much inseparable. They hang out all the time off set, travel together, have a BFF nickname — it’s ButtahBenzo — and are constantly showing their support for one another. We are confident that these two will be life-long friends, and will remain close especially now that their series has ended.
4. Lauren Conrad & Lo Bosworth (Laguna Beach and The Hills)
Alright, technically these two reality stars were best friends pretty much their whole lives, but because they also were portrayed as BFFs on both Laguna Beach and The Hills, we’re going to count it. Conrad and Bosworth have remained very close, despite no longer living together (Bosworth now lives in New York). In fact, when Conrad got married in 2014, Bosworth was one of her bridesmaids! Plus, the two attended their high school reunion together, because obviously.
5. Anna Camp & Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect)
This might be a newer friendship in comparison to some of the ladies on this list, but it’s just as strong. Camp and Snow began their friendship in 2012 after playing friends and leaders of the Barden Bellas in Pitch Perfect. When they aren’t singing together, they are spending a lot of time with one another and most recently Snow was one of Camp’s bridesmaids in her wedding to fellow Pitch Perfect star, Skylar Astin in 2016.
6. Michelle Williams & Busy Phillips (Dawson’s Creek)
Williams might’ve been part of Dawson’s Creek since the beginning of the series, but it was the college add-in of Phillips that ended up being her lifelong friend. On screen the two played part of the Creek crew, Williams as Jen Lindley, and Phillips as Audrey Liddell, and although they were pretty much just group friends on the show and rarely had one-on-one friend moments, off screen these two have been inseparable since the early ’00s. Seriously, these two do everything together, including go on vacation, be on each other’s shows and attend award shows as each other’s dates. Oh, and Phillips is the godmother to Williams’ daughter, Matilda, which is wonderful.
7. Maisie Williams & Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones)
While they actually play sisters and not best friends on the HBO series, we just had to include them. Their off-screen friendship is undeniable and they are quickly becoming the most famous celebrity duo. Williams and Turner do everything together, including rock matching costumes for Halloween. They also have matching tattoos, so when Game of Thrones does end, there’s no doubt their friendship/sisterhood will remain solid.
8. Tina Fey & Amy Poehler (Sisters)
Yes, we know that Fey and Poehler actually met back in their improv days in Chicago, but because they’ve played best friends on Saturday Night Live skits, and on screen we had to include them. These two comedians really know what it means to be best friends. They’ve been through everything together and most recently played sisters, aka the ultimate best friends, in their comedy Sisters, proving once again that their friendship is #SquadGoals.
