On Sunday (April 17), Starz debuted its first look at season 3 of Outlander, and it shows that complications are at an all-time high for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).
While we will always believe in the love between Jamie and Claire, it’s hard not to question whether or not love can truly conquer all based on this new teaser, and yet we can’t stop watching it on repeat.
For a quick recap, last we saw these two, Jamie helped send Claire, who was pregnant, back in time to her life in 1948. Jamie, on the other hand, stayed in the 18th century to fight in an epic battle, which he was ready to die in — we, however, were NOT ready to say goodbye to him.
Based on season 2, we know that Jamie didn’t die and that Claire raised her daughter with her husband Frank, all the while yearning for her true love Jamie. Twenty years later she returned to Scotland and discovered that Jamie was alive, but would their love still be there?
That is what this season is going to answer. Plus, it’s going to actually show the couple’s time apart, in different centuries, as they live their lives while longing for their pure, true, storybook love story. Yes, we have to watch them live apart and we’re dreading it!
So what can we expect from season 3? According to the trailer sadness, for starters.
The clip opens with Jamie and Claire, right before they send her back to her time. We then see Jaime going to battle and waking up from what looks like a fight he thought he’d loss.
“When I stand before God, I will have one this to say to weigh against all the rest. Lord, you gave me a real woman. God I loved her well…” Jamie says, as we see images of him as a soldier riding through the fields of Scotland. No matter what, he is grateful for one thing: Claire.
We also see glimpses of Claire’s life, raising her daughter, watching her grow up, and sadly missing her love. It’s just too much sadness.
“I’ll find you, I promise,” you hear Jamie say as he yells Claire’s name on screen. Then everything goes black!
Outlander Season 3 premieres in September on Starz.
