‘The Mayor’ Gets Pulled From ABC

It’s bad news for fans of ABC’s The Mayor… the network has pulled the plug on the freshman comedy!

On Thursday (Jan. 4), a network rep from ABC told TVLine that The Mayor, which stars Brandon Micheal Hall (as Courtney Rose), Lea Michele (as Valentina Barella), Marcel Spears (as T.K. Clifton), Bernard David Jones (as Jermaine Leforge), and Yvette Nicole Brown (as Dina Rose), has officially been pulled from the network’s lineup. The Mayor was set for a January 9, 2018 return from its winter break, but now will be cut from the lineup completely.

According to the publication, The Mayor was pulled from ABC “until further notice,” and it’s a sad day if you are a fan of the political, musical and comical show. Since the new series was only averaging about 2.9 million viewers (at the 0.8 demo rating), its performance is most likely to blame for it being shelved.

The numbers that The Mayor brought in for the nine episodes (of the original 13 ordered) that have aired made it the least-watched and lowest-rated comedy on ABC, TVLine reported, which is pretty rough. The only good news is that The Mayor could be shopped around and picked up by another network or streaming service, so there could be a comeback in the future… maybe.

Until then, the time slot (Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.) will be filled by Modern Family repeats. If you’re not happy with The Mayor getting the boot, sound off in the comments below!
