Pee-Wee Herman Went Viral Last Night On Twitter–And We’re Feeling Nostalgic Now

OK, so I know that the actor who played Pee-wee Herman (Paul Reubens) got caught in a Florida adult-film theater which was a huge, huge scandal back in 1991 and ruined his family-friendly image for a while.

I always thought that the treatment of Herman was a bit unfair, but that’s besides the point.

So I was happy to see that my favorite childhood funnyman had a resurgence in the past couple of years. Most recently starring in his own Netflix film with Joe Manganiello.

Watching it only made me want to check out Pee-wee’s Big Adventure all over again, because, let’s face it: the film is a classic American Masterpiece.

I mean, with jokes like this:

How could anyone not love it?

Now before I turn this piece into a ten thousand word article on how much better the film is than Citizen Kane, which I totally could, let me get into why I’m talking about this amazing film in the first place.

That’s because Paul Reubens, the man behind Pee-wee, just tweeted a still from the 1985 film, commemorating Large Marge’s birthday.

Fans of the movie instantly got the reference: Large Marge was the ghost-trucker who gave Pee-wee a lift and a huge scare on his quest to recover his stolen bicycle.

The tweet thread immediately became a minefield of quotes from the film.

While others shared their Large Marge cosplays.

People were really being taken back to their childhoods.

And some Twitter users pointed out that Large Marge was pretty young when she died…and that she looked way older than the date on her memorial plaque.

And would you believe it, someone has a Large Marge tattoo.

The only way you could be a bigger Pee Wee Herman fan is if you managed to build his breakfast machine.

Oh wait, it looks like someone already laid out the plans for this awesome device. No idea if it ever came to fruition, however.
