An Oregon man has pleaded guilty to groping a 13-year-old girl on an American Airlines flight.
26-year-old Chad Cameron Camp was arrested when his flight landed at Portland International Airport, from Dallas, on June 15th, after he’d spent a majority of the flight time inappropriately touching a young unaccompanied girl seated next to him.
He pleaded guilty Thursday to making an indecent sexual proposal to a minor, as well as assault with intent to commit abusive sexual contact with a minor.
He’ll remain in custody until sentenced in May, and will likely be handed a 14-month prison term. Credit for time served is also likely to figure in.
He’ll have to register as a sex offender for at least 15 years as well.
The victim has been traveling to Portland alone after she’d visited her dad in San Antonio, Texas. Her family had paid an extra $300 for her to be looked after during her trip.
She’d tried to push Camp’s hands off of her legs and asked him to stop touching her. He just laughed at her.
After about thirty minutes of this, a flight attendant saw his hand near the victim’s crotch and told him to move seats. The attendant then told the captain.
Her family has filed a $10 million lawsuit against American Airlines, saying that the flight crew “allowed the abuse to continue for an extended period of time without offering any intervention or assistance,” according to NY Daily News.
