Joel McHale Reveals Whether He’d Ever Do Another Scripted Series

Fans of Joel McHale are happy to have the comedian/actor back on screen with The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale, but will he ever go back to scripted television? The quick answer: possibly!

It’s been three years since McHale was seen on the Dan Harmon-created Community, and one year since he was on CBS’ The Great Indoors, and although he’s now busy with his talk show host, he isn’t opposed to returning to scripted.

“If the script is great. Dan [Harmon] is such a creative, comedic force, and his level of quality is so high – if someone like that comes along again, I’m all over it. As long as it doesn’t interfere too much with the show I’m doing,” McHale told Variety when asked if he would consider doing another 22-episode series.

As for his acting career in general, McHale is open to new ventures, though he’s hoping his  Netflix talk show gets picked up for more episodes.

“If it gets picked up for 10 or 13 more, that allows me to have some wiggle room at the end of the year. So it’s a little bit ambiguous,” he told the publication about his acting future, while teasing that he’s “developing a piece with director Scott Derrickson. “If that all works out, then I can’t wait to do that.”

Here’s hoping McHale does come back to the scripted comedy world sooner rather than later. Until then, you can find us tuning into McHale’s new talk show series — and probably binge-watching episodes all the time.
