An Iowa teacher that became a stripper, and was charged with sleeping with a 17-year-old student “hundreds of times,” will only serve three months in jail.
24-year-old Mary Beth Haglin was handed the light sentence Friday by the same judge who convicted her back in December. She must also register as a sex offender for 10 years.
She admitted to sleeping with the boy daily. She made this confession on the Dr. Phil show, and in light of that confession, her charges were upgraded from misdemeanor sexually exploiting a minor, to felony sexual exploitation.
She’s said to have “admitted engaging in a pattern or practice of sexual conduct with a student while employed as a teacher at Washington High School, which supports the more serious felony offenses,” according to court documents.
Haglin, who worked under the stripper name “Bambi,” was arrested back in July after the forbidden couple’s six-month affair was reported by a female classmate. The teen had showed off her nude photos to his friends. The photo below was among the illicit stash.
Ms. Haglin was working at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the time. It lasted from January to May of 2016.
She claimed the student seduced her with romantic notes.
At the end of classes, he’d leave the messages on her desk, referring to her as “my empress” and “Mrs. Robinson,” the latter referencing the older woman who seduces a young man in the movie “The Graduate.”
