A California high school drama teacher and newlywed stands accused of having an “inappropriate relationship” with an underage female student, between 13 and 14 years old.
32-year-old Camryn Zelinger, a now-former teacher at Encore High School of the Arts in Riverside, California, was arrested Monday at the school after the illicit affair was discovered by the barely-teen girl’s mother.
She’s since been fired by Encore High School.
The investigation leading to arrest started when the victim’s mother told authorities she’d found “explicit” text messages from the teacher on her daughter’s cell phone.
Her daughter wouldn’t admit anything.
“She wouldn’t tell me, she was too afraid. She kept saying, ‘Nothing, mom, nothing, mom.’ But I knew something was wrong,” she told a new station. The woman began crying as she told that same station, “When I finally found out something was going on, when she told me her teacher was molesting her – first period, eighth period, all throughout the day…”
Ms. Zelinger would even have the victim removed from her other classes to spend time with her.
The disgraced teacher and her husband were married just six months ago, according to her Facebook page.
She was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and was released Tuesday after posting $50,000 bail.
She was charged with lewd or lascivious acts with a minor, a felony that carries up to eight years in prison, and annoying or molesting a child under 18 years of age, a misdemeanor.
She’s due back in court on April 11th.
