It’s more good news for The Good Doctor! The medical drama is coming back for a second season!
ABC announced on Wednesday (March 7) that the freshmen series has been renewed for another season which means there is plenty more Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) coming our way next year.
“The Good Doctor‘s message of inclusiveness resonates with our viewers and is a hallmark of what we aim to accomplish here at ABC,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a press statement via Entertainment Weekly. “This series has quickly joined the zeitgeist and broken records in the competitive television landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Shaun Murphy will be back for another season.”
The series — which revolves around Dr. Murphy, a surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, and his fellow residents at a prestigious hospital in San Jose— is currently the most-watched freshman series in 13 years for ABC, which makes it a no-brainer to pick up for another season.
The Good Doctor was picked up for a full season order only two episodes into its first season, and with so much success we aren’t surprised that the network is confident in ordering more from the drama.
Plus, the cast, which is made up of Highmore, Richard Schiff, Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper and Tamlyn Tomita, is so good together that we can’t wait to see them continue to grow as the show evolves.
The Good Doctor airs Mondays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
