The day is finally here — the nominees for the 2017 Emmys have been announced!
Veep’s Anna Chlumsky and Criminal Minds favorite Shemar Moore announced this year’s nominations at the Wolf Theatre at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center in Los Angeles on Thursday (July 13). Although the award show is all about the best of the best in the TV world, this year, some major movie stars made their way onto this list.
Big names like Susan Sarandon (nominated for Feud: Bette and Joan), and Robert De Niro (nominated for The Wizard of Lies) have all made the jump from mega big screen star to equally as popular small-screen star.
Big Little Lies took home six nominations and bumped both Nicole Kidman, who has won an Oscar for her past movie roles, and Reese Witherspoon, who is everyone’s favorite rom-com star, into must-watch TV stars.
Other nominations aren’t as one-sided including Robin Wright, who is known for her role on House of Cards, which she is nominated for, but recently made a major splash on the big screen again with Wonder Woman. Benedict Cumberbatch (nominated for Sherlock: The Lying Detective) and Riz Ahmed (nominated for The Night Of) are also both known for their work in TV and film, so clearly the Emmys are anyone’s game this year.
